Let’s face it, many of us lose hope after failing.
We’ve conditioned ourselves to stop trying after our initial plan fails.
Generally, you don’t need to find an alternative to something just because it’s challenging. Suppose you want to participate in a spelling bee, but you’re intimidated by other competitors. In that case, you don’t need to quit immediately and redirect your energy to something else. I believe in taking a leap of faith and doing things that scare you because it builds confidence and experience. However, sometimes things don’t work out. Perhaps you made it to your city spelling bee, but no further than that. Now, you can leave ALL competitions in the past or take a new opportunity—a speech competition. You debate whether this is a good idea, as you are great at spelling, but you don’t know if you’re suitable for giving speeches.
Yes, certain factors are the same. You have to stand on a stage before judges and speak clearly into a microphone. Regardless, they’re still two different things. You decide to go for it anyway.
This situation applies to many, even to me.
It’s easy to think that because your first option isn’t available, it’s not worth trying something new or unfamiliar.

I love tennis and joined my school’s tennis team last year. This year, however, I decided not to join. For a moment, I thought, “Well, I guess I won’t be on a sports team this year.” I reminded myself to shift to a more positive mindset, and asked myself, “What’s another option?” As such, I decided to try a different sport that I’m somewhat familiar with (and that uses similar skills that tennis conditions). Sure, it’s not my first choice or my favorite sport. Nonetheless, I get to enjoy participating in a sport and staying active.
Sometimes, losing isn’t a complete loss. It opens new doors for areas you wouldn’t have explored otherwise. It pushes you out of your comfort zone and builds character.
I want you to remember that when Plan A doesn’t work, you can seize Plan B and make the most of it.
I believe that everything happens for a reason and that anything that is meant for you will find you. Do not worry, leave everything in God’s hands.
Keep your head up high! Life throws curveballs at you, but don’t let that keep you from moving forward.
Wishing you the best! -Nicole
